SUMMARY:Intermediate Sewing Course
DESCRIPTION:This course is for intermediate beginners to sewing and is perfect for those who have sewn before and made a few things\, but aren’t quite sure they are using the correct techniques or would like to get a better more professional finish to their items. It may be that you last used a sewing machine many years ago and want to get back into it. If you have an idea about what a seam allowance or grain line is and can stick to it\, then this is the right course for you. \nThis course will give you the skills and confidence to get sewing correctly and learn the right sewing habits. Over the length of this course you will learn about the sewing machine\, how to sew a variety of different stitches\, how to insert zips\, make button holes\, hand stitching\, to name a few. The objective is to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to give you the confidence to work on many different sewing projects using the techniques learnt during the 4 weeks. \nWe will break about half way through each session for refreshments\, as sewing is thirsty work for mind and body therefore it’s only natural that there will be plenty of tea\, coffee and cake to keep us going! \nThis course will run over four weeks\, made up of four\, 3 hour sessions on 03/02\, 10/02\, 17/02 & 24/02 \nSession 1\nGet back to basics with the sewing machine and learn some key techniques:\nIdentify the parts of a sewing machine and become familiar with them.\nThread\, wind and adjust the machine tension.\nIdentify and sew different machine stitches\, creating your own samples.\nHow to read and interpret a basic pattern. \nIf you are following on from the Beginners Course\, you can choose from one of three items to make in this lesson. You can choose to sew either an oven glove\, cooking apron or quilted make-up bag. \nSession 2\nBuild on the skills from Session 1 and make a tote bag with front pocket and boxed gusset:\nLearn to lay and cut out a pattern.\nPin and stitch pattern pieces together.\nHow to sew corners.\nHow to press out seams.\nHow to sew on trims. \nMaterials required for Session 2: You will need to bring 1 x meter ( if wider than 130 cm) or if 112 cm wide you will need 1.30 meters length of your choice of fabric for the tote bag and 3.20 m of cotton tape or webbing used to re-enforce the straps and act as a trim and 1 x spool of thread to match. \nSession 3\nBuild on the skills from Session 2 and make a 45 x 45cm applique cushion:\nLearn about interfacing and how to use it.\nLearn how to applique.\nDifferent types of zips\, application and installation.\nTrimming down corners.\nHow to use an over locker to finish your seams. \nMaterials required for Session 3: You will need to bring 60 cm length of your choice of fabric for the applique cushion cover\, along with a simple template of the design you wish to applique and necessary length of chosen fabric for the applique design\, 1 x 35 cm Zipper\, 1 x 50 cm x 50 cm cushion inner as well as thread to match the applique and the cushion for stitching. \nSession 4\nBuild on the skills from Session 3 and make a quilted hot water bottle cover with buttons and buttonhole closures:\nLearn to measure and mark out fabric.\nHow to create your grid and sew wadding.\nLearn how to make and sew bias binding.\nHow to sew\, trim\, snip and notch curved seams.\nHow to mark and sew button holes and buttons. \nMaterials required for Session 4: You will need to bring 3 x separate pieces of 50 cm length of your choice of fabric ( 3 x fat quarters will do ) for the hot water bottle cover\, 1 x length of 50 cm of plain 100% cotton fabric for the lining of the wadding and 50 cm of 6 oz wadding\, a hot water bottle\, button and thread to match. \nLevel: 2-3. This is an intermediate level class\, and not suitable for complete beginners. You will need to have some knowledge of sewing and how to use the sewing machine. DESCRIPTION:This is the perfect course for those who wish to learn to make their own pyjama trousers using the Tilly and the Buttons “Jaime” pyjama trousers pattern. The Workshop is best suited for those who have used a sewing machine before or completed the Beginners Introduction to Sewing Course. \nThis is fantastic course for those wanting an introduction into making clothing as your will learn how to read and interpret a pattern and learn simple garment construction techniques. \nAt the end of the workshop you will have one complete pair of adult pyjamas trousers. \nYou will receive your own Tilly and the Buttons “Jaime” pattern which is included in the class fee and yours to keep. \nDuring the workshop you will learn step by step how to lay\, pin\, cut and assemble your pyjama trousers. \nWe will break about half way through the session for refreshments\, as sewing is thirsty work for mind and body therefore it’s only natural that there will be plenty of tea\, coffee and cake to keep us going! \nThis workshop is made up of one\, 3 hour session. \nMaterials required:\nYou will need to bring your own fabric for the pyjama trousers.\nIf the fabric is 150cm wide; you will need 2.10m.\nIf the fabric is 115cm wide; you will need 2.5m.\nCotton\, viscose\, cotton lawn\, cotton gauze\, brushed cotton\, viscose twill\, silky satin are all suitable options \nBelow are some suggested fabrics that will make your pyjama trousers comfortable to wear depending on the time of year.\nSuggested fabrics for Autumn/Winter: brushed cotton\, flannelette.\nSuggested fabric for Spring/Summer: 100% cotton\, cotton lawn or viscose\, silky satin. \nIMPORTANT TIP: Pre-wash and and iron your fabric prior to the class as these fabrics will shrink on the first wash!! DESCRIPTION:This course is for intermediate beginners to sewing and is perfect for those who have sewn before and made a few things\, but aren’t quite sure they are using the correct techniques or would like to get a better more professional finish to their items. It may be that you last used a sewing machine many years ago and want to get back into it. If you have an idea about what a seam allowance or grain line is and can stick to it\, then this is the right course for you. \nThis course will give you the skills and confidence to get sewing correctly and learn the right sewing habits. Over the length of this course you will learn about the sewing machine\, how to sew a variety of different stitches\, how to insert zips\, make button holes\, hand stitching\, to name a few. The objective is to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to give you the confidence to work on many different sewing projects using the techniques learnt during the 4 weeks. \nWe will break about half way through each session for refreshments\, as sewing is thirsty work for mind and body therefore it’s only natural that there will be plenty of tea\, coffee and cake to keep us going! \nThis course will run over four weeks\, made up of four\, 3 hour sessions on 19/02\, 26/02\, 4/03 & 11/03 \nSession 1\nGet back to basics with the sewing machine and learn some key techniques:\nIdentify the parts of a sewing machine and become familiar with them.\nThread\, wind and adjust the machine tension.\nIdentify and sew different machine stitches\, creating your own samples.\nHow to read and interpret a basic pattern. \nIf you are following on from the Beginners Course\, you can choose from one of three items to make in this lesson. You can choose to sew either an oven glove\, cooking apron or quilted make-up bag. \nSession 2\nBuild on the skills from Session 1 and make a tote bag with front pocket and boxed gusset:\nLearn to lay and cut out a pattern.\nPin and stitch pattern pieces together.\nHow to sew corners.\nHow to press out seams.\nHow to sew on trims. \nMaterials required for Session 2: You will need to bring 1 x meter ( if wider than 130 cm) or if 112 cm wide you will need 1.30 meters length of your choice of fabric for the tote bag and 3.20 m of cotton tape or webbing used to re-enforce the straps and act as a trim and 1 x spool of thread to match. \nSession 3\nBuild on the skills from Session 2 and make a 45 x 45cm applique cushion:\nLearn about interfacing and how to use it.\nLearn how to applique.\nDifferent types of zips\, application and installation.\nTrimming down corners.\nHow to use an over locker to finish your seams. \nMaterials required for Session 3: You will need to bring 60 cm length of your choice of fabric for the applique cushion cover\, along with a simple template of the design you wish to applique and necessary length of chosen fabric for the applique design\, 1 x 35 cm Zipper\, 1 x 50 cm x 50 cm cushion inner as well as thread to match the applique and the cushion for stitching. \nSession 4\nBuild on the skills from Session 3 and make a quilted hot water bottle cover with buttons and buttonhole closures:\nLearn to measure and mark out fabric.\nHow to create your grid and sew wadding.\nLearn how to make and sew bias binding.\nHow to sew\, trim\, snip and notch curved seams.\nHow to mark and sew button holes and buttons. \nMaterials required for Session 4: You will need to bring 3 x separate pieces of 50 cm length of your choice of fabric ( 3 x fat quarters will do ) for the hot water bottle cover\, 1 x length of 50 cm of plain 100% cotton fabric for the lining of the wadding and 50 cm of 6 oz wadding\, a hot water bottle\, button and thread to match. \nLevel: 2-3. This is an intermediate level class\, and not suitable for complete beginners. You will need to have some knowledge of sewing and how to use the sewing machine. DESCRIPTION:This is the perfect course for those who wish to learn to make their own pyjama trousers using the Tilly and the Buttons “Jaime” pyjama trousers pattern. The Workshop is best suited for those who have used a sewing machine before or completed the Beginners Introduction to Sewing Course. \nThis is fantastic course for those wanting an introduction into making clothing as your will learn how to read and interpret a pattern and learn simple garment construction techniques. \nAt the end of the workshop you will have one complete pair of adult pyjamas trousers. \nYou will receive your own Tilly and the Buttons “Jaime” pattern which is included in the class fee and yours to keep. \nDuring the workshop you will learn step by step how to lay\, pin\, cut and assemble your pyjama trousers. \nWe will break about half way through the session for refreshments\, as sewing is thirsty work for mind and body therefore it’s only natural that there will be plenty of tea\, coffee and cake to keep us going! \nThis workshop is made up of one\, 3 hour session. \nMaterials required:\nYou will need to bring your own fabric for the pyjama trousers.\nIf the fabric is 150cm wide; you will need 2.10m.\nIf the fabric is 115cm wide; you will need 2.5m.\nCotton\, viscose\, cotton lawn\, cotton gauze\, brushed cotton\, viscose twill\, silky satin are all suitable options \nBelow are some suggested fabrics that will make your pyjama trousers comfortable to wear depending on the time of year.\nSuggested fabrics for Autumn/Winter: brushed cotton\, flannelette.\nSuggested fabric for Spring/Summer: 100% cotton\, cotton lawn or viscose\, silky satin. \nIMPORTANT TIP: Pre-wash and and iron your fabric prior to the class as these fabrics will shrink on the first wash!! DESCRIPTION:“The Hive” is a sewing club held at my Studio in Byfleet\, and runs weekly on a morning and evening session and also on a Saturday. \n“The Hive” provides a fun and relaxed group sewing environment where you are free to learn how to make whatever it is you would like with expert guidance and support from myself. I will help you at whatever skill level you are at to add to your sewing knowledge and confidence\, enabling you to make fantastic creations and have a bundle of fun along the way. \nYou do not need to have a sewing machine or know how to sew to join theses sessions. \nI have sewing machines available for use during the session\, but if you do have your own sewing machine\, I would recommend you bring it along so that you can become more and more confident in using your machines features. \nI will oversee the class\, helping you along the way\, offering advice\, showing you a new or different technique that will help you grow in confidence to keep sewing and pushing yourself to try new things more and more. \nIt may be you want to refine a certain skill\, work on a project or learn how to master a technique that may just have you befuddled or you have been wanting to sew in a group environment with other people who are also passionate about sewing. \nYou get to be as creative as you like and work on a project of your choosing. \nWe will break about half way through for refreshments and cake\, as sewing is thirsty work for mind and body therefore it’s only natural that there will be plenty of tea\, coffee and cake to keep us going! \nMaterials required for Session: Bring along your pattern and all relevant fabrics\, trims\, zippers\, etc. If you have your own sewing machine\, I would advise you bring it along so that you can become more confident in using your machines features. \nLevel: 1 – Beginner. \nClass Length: 3 hour sessions \nMax in a class: 5 \nPrice: £45 \nThe Hive Multi-Session Discount Vouchers.\nYou can also purchase 4 Multi-Session Discount Vouchers at a discounted price for £160 (Save £20). \nEmail me to check availability and to book your place \nI also carry a stock of fabrics and haberdashery should you wish to purchase on the day (card payment facility available). or you can also browse and buy fabrics at our online fabric shop. \nVisit Watsons Fabrics
