Make Your Own Comfy Sweatshirt – Tilly and the Buttons BILLIE Sweat Shirt Pattern
Making a comfy sweatshirt is an excellent way to start learning how to sew with stretchy fabrics. You’ll also learn how to use the overlocker or the overlock stitch on your sewing machine, so you can make a perfectly fitted, cosy, and comfortable sweatshirt for those chilly days. Not only will you gain valuable sewing skills, but you’ll also have a great new item of clothing to show off!
On this course, you will use the Tilly and the Buttons – Billie pattern which offers a variety of options so you can choose either the sweatshirt version or the tunic length dress. Through this course, you will learn how to make minor adjustments to the pattern so that your finished garment fits you perfectly! The pattern is included in the course fee, so you will get to keep it and make more sweatshirts or dresses for years to come.
We will break about half way through each session for refreshments, as sewing is thirsty work for mind and body therefore it’s only natural that there will be plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits/cake to keep us going!
This course is made up of three, 3 hour sessions on 27/01, 03/02 & 10/02
Materials required:
For the Sweat shirt Version 1 – Size 6 – 14 – 1.5m of 140 wide Stretch fabric If size 16 – 24 – 2.3m of 140 cm wide stretch fabric
For the Sweat Shirt Version 2 – Size 6 – 14 – 1.8m of 140 wide Stretch fabric If size 16 – 24 – 2.3m of 140 cm wide stretch fabric
For the Sweatshirt Dress Version 3 – Size 6 – 14 – 2.1m of 140 wide Stretch fabric If size 16 – 24 – 2.8m of 140 cm wide stretch fabric
For the Sweatshirt Dress Version 4 – Size 6 – 14 – 2.3m of 140 wide Stretch fabric If size 16 – 24 – 2.8m of 140 cm wide stretch fabric
2 x reels matching thread – we recommend Gutermann Polyester Sew all threads.
1 x packet ballpoint needles size 18/12 and /19/14 – we recommend Schmetz as a brand of good machine needles.
Session 1
Learn how to asses the correct size.
Cut out paper pattern pieces to correct size.
Lay and cut out all the pieces onto your fabric.
Start to sew the sweatshirt together.
Session 2
Continue assembling the sweatshirt checking the sizing and perfecting the fit and pattern.
Attaching the neckband and getting that just right.
Top stitching detail.
Session 3
Inserting sleeves.
Attaching cuffs and hemming.
Finish all top stitching.
