Quilting – Binding
This class is designed to teach you how to finish off your quilt by adding a binding to the edge for a professional finish.
Having spent time selecting your fabric and making your quilt, it’s now time to add the finishing touches. We will cover various binding techniques such as scrappy, single and double binding.
Learn how to:
- Cut, sew and add joining strips to making your binding.
- Add binding to sample blocks or quilt with mitred corners.
- A quilt is not complete without a Label so we will discuss how to create labels.
Requirements:
Bring along your quilt project you have already started and we can add the final steps or discuss the final steps.
Alternatively, 2 or 3 quilt sandwiches approx. 12” x 12” so that you can practice the various techniques.
You will require fabric to make the various binding. Scrap fabric, fabric pieces and any large fabric pieces to create binding strips. Binding strips are generally 2.5” in width.
There is no need to go and purchase fabric. I will have scraps as well to practice with.
I have sewing machines available for use during the session, but if you do have your own sewing machine, I would recommend you bring it along so that you can become more and more confident in using your machines features.
We will break about half way through the session for refreshments, as sewing is thirsty work for mind and body therefore it’s only natural that there will be plenty of tea, coffee and snacks to keep us going!
