Introduction to Quilting – Quilting Techniques Workshop – Christmas Table Runner

There are so many possibilities when it comes to thinking about creating a Christmas Table Runner.

• Gnome Christmas runner
• Quilt As You Go (QAYG) Christmas runner
• Festive Applique Christmas runner. Possible design ideas include: Trees, Stars or mixing and matching your stash with Christmas Applique shapes.

These table runners are quick and easy to create and can be made longer or shorter.

Approximate size: 13” – 45” (35–115 cm)

For the Gnome table runner you will need Fat Quarters for the following:

• Long White Fat Quarter : for the ground, trees and snow balls
• Long Fat Quarter : Sky Fabric this could be a plain colour or patterned
• Red Fabric or Felt for the Hat, Clock, Fire
• Dark Brown Fabric / Felt for the shoes
• Cream Fabric / Felt for the nose

Quilt As You Go (QAYG):

• Approximately 8 different contrasting Fat Quarters to create strips for QAYG runner alternatively a Festive Season Jelly Roll.

Christmas Applique:

• A selection of contrasting fabric for creating applique designs. Scrap Fabric of all shapes and sizes is great to use.
• Background fabric approx. 13 x 45”

For ALL Table Runners, you will require:

• Wadding for the size of runner
• Backing Fabric for the size of runner
• Binding Fabric : approx. ½ metre
• Heat & Bond
• 505 Adhesive Spray
• Dylon Starch
• Sewing machine, pedal and power
• Sewing machine pressure feet
• Thread, pins, needles, scissors, unpicker, etc.

I have sewing machines available for use during the session, but if you do have your own sewing machine, I would recommend you bring it along so that you can become more and more confident in using your machines features.

We will break about half way through the session for refreshments, as sewing is thirsty work for mind and body therefore it’s only natural that there will be plenty of tea, coffee and cake to keep us going!
