Introduction to Patchwork & Quilting

This is a beginners course into basic patchwork & quilting. It’s a great way to create a quick and easy quilt top to be used as a shopping bag or lap / cot quilt.

Squares are the most basic shape in quilting. Each side of the square is the same size; cut on the straight grain; and the design is easily adapted by changing the size of the square.

During this three week course, you will learn the various stages of patchwork: Design, Cutting, Patchwork, Quilting.

The image shown is that of a basic patchwork top that will be turned into a shopping bag. Both sides of my shopping bag are made up of 16 x 5” squares. The bag will be lined and have handles. The handles can either be made out of the ‘charm pack’ fabric or alternative fabric.

There are so many alternative ways that you can be as creative as you’d like. Just look what can be done with collared shirts and neck-ties! Such fun! It is unbelievable the amount of fabric in a collared shirt.

Should you wish to only want to create the quilt top, week 1, then that is possible and you are more than welcome.
