Quilting – Beginner Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP)

FPP is a quilting technique that involves sewing fabric onto paper to create precise and complex designs. It is an accurate method of patchwork for piecing unusual shapes and achieving crisp, clean lines in your work.

Your newly created block may be incorporated into a number of perfect gifts such as Baby Quilt with different coloured trees, Cushion Cover, Coaster, Zipper pouch or even a pocket inside or outside a Tote Bag.

The pattern will be provided on the day.

Requirements

• 1 x 14” back fabric
• 1 x 14” cotton wadding
• Spray Starch from the supermarket
• 505 Adhesive from Amazon
• Assortment of thread
• Fabrics for sky, tree, trunk and ground (flowers) and these should be starched. Large pieces of scrap fabric alternatively a Fat Quarter for each.

If you are not familiar with foundation paper piecing don’t cut any fabrics.

Equipment

• Rotary cutter and acrylic ruler
• Cutting mat
• Sewing machine (foot pedal, power lead, manual and accessories e.g. feet, bobbin, needles)
• Basic sewing kit (small scissors, unpicker, pins, etc).

You will require a specific “Add a ¼” ruler with a lip”, which is purchasable from Amazon. I do have, in stock, should you wish to purchase on the day.

I have sewing machines available for use during the session, but if you do have your own sewing machine, I would recommend you bring it along so that you can become more and more confident in using your machines features.

We will break about half way through the session for refreshments, as sewing is thirsty work for mind and body therefore it’s only natural that there will be plenty of tea, coffee and snacks to keep us going!
