Quilting – Decorative multi-purpose zipper pouch

This is a two part workshop running on 1st October & 8th October.

Part 1
Create an appliqued pattern of one our feathered friends on a branch. Personalise your design with Free Motion Quilting alternatively use a variety of machine stitching and thread to secure your applique pieces.

For Free Motion Quilting you will require an Embroidery Foot and be able to lower your feet dogs.

Part 2
Using your fabric and design from Lesson 1 you will create a make-up, sewing bag, swap bag or just a zipper pouch as per the sample with a zipped closure.

The zipper pouch is based on the Emmaline Retreat Bag design and does not have the wire frames. The pouches are fun to sew and make fantastic gifts for friends of all ages.

Requirements

Pattern: Feathered Bird pattern will be provided alternatively you may wish to bring your own.

Approx. finished size: Length (8 ½”), Height (5”), Width (4”).

• Scrap fabric for bird, leaves, branch
• Exterior Fabric: 1 Fat Quarter alternatively ½m
• Lining: 1 Fat Quarter alternatively ½m
• Zip: 16”
• Thread: Variety of thread including black, white, variegated
• Heat & Bond for Applique
• Spray Starch from the supermarket
• 505 Spray Adhesive from Amazon

Equipment:

• Rotary cutter and acrylic ruler
• Cutting mat
• Sewing machine (foot pedal, power lead, manual and accessories e.g. feet, bobbin, needles)
• Frixion Pen / Marking pen
• Basic sewing kit (small scissors, unpicker, pins, etc).

I have sewing machines available for use during the session, but if you do have your own sewing machine, I would recommend you bring it along so that you can become more and more confident in using your machines features.

We will break about half way through the session for refreshments, as sewing is thirsty work for mind and body therefore it’s only natural that there will be plenty of tea, coffee and snacks to keep us going!
